Patra pottali sweda (leaf massage)
The process of this therapy matches with Baluka sweda. But, instead of sand, herbal plants are ‘cooked’ with other ingredients to make the bolus. The bolus is dipped into medicated oils and then applied onto the intended area on the body to cause perspiration. Patra potali sweda controls aggravated vata in the body. General pain and edema are overcome by this therapy. The process helps one’s body in situations such as paralysis and convulsions. Jambeera Pinda Sweda (lemon and herbs massage)
For Jambira pinda sweda, the bolus is formed using pieces of lemon and other additional herbs. This bolus is also dipped in specific medicated oils and applied throughout the body very softly. Conditions of aggravated vata, avabhuka and frozen shoulder are usually treated using jambira pinda sweda. Specially picked lemons and herbs are used for the above therapy at Shreenivas Ayurvedic Centre, where every step of the treatment is given with full attention. Another version of the same therapy is presented as CHURNAPinda Sweda in which only a group of herbs are used for the bolus without lemon. Churna Pinda Sweda (warm herbal powder massage)..
Churna pinda sweda During this procedure, boluses are made up of powders of dries herbs after being processed with specific oils and the body is massaged using these boluses. Churna pinda sweda is beneficial in conditions such as general pain, stiffness, loss of body mass etc. It also helps rejuvenate someone and removal of toxins from the body. Udwartanam ( herbal powder massage)
Udwartanam is a special body massage using a combination of herbal powders. The specialty of this therapy is that the massage is done in a direction opposite to the hair follicles. This therapy is used to lessen kapha in the body. Udwartanam absorbs fat in the body thus effectively helps in weight loss. Firmness is achieved in the body parts and maintains a healthy skin. Lavana Pinda Sweda (warm salt massage)

Baluka sweda (warm sand massage)
This therapy involves the initiation sweating process using sand. Heated sand is formed into bolus (potalis) using cloth fabrics and is applied (continuously placed) on the affected body parts. The sand used for the process is vigilantly cleaned after removing parts like gravel and other waste material. Baluka swedanam is very successful in conditions of rheumatism, joint pains and other painful disorders. Navara kizhi (rice and medicated milk pudding massage)
Navara Kizhi is also a type of pinda sweda. Navara is special preparation made of medicinal rice cooked in milk. The bolus for the treatment is dipped into milk mixed with others medicines and used for body massage. Navara kizhi increases immunity and helps the body develop out of injury and trauma. Shirodhara ( medicated liquid streaming on forehead)
In Sanskrit, shiro means “head” and dhara means “flow” therefore shirodhara literally means to receive a continuous stream of warm, medicated liquid onto one’s forehead which creates a brain state very similar to deep meditation. The liquid chosen depends on the patient’s constitution and health disorders. It is very obvious that the process highly relaxes the patient and thus helps in combating fatigue, mental disorders, anxiety and stress. Pizhichil (oil bath)
Two traditional treatments Snehana (oleation) and swedana (sudation) are merged to form pizhichil.
